Design Your Home With Carpet

Why does carpet make sense for my home?  Carpet offers many practical and aesthetic advantages such as:

  • Comfort for Walking

  • Insulation & Noise Reduction

  • Safety Against Falls and Breakage

  • Beauty

The beauty of carpet is that it comes in so many colors, styles and textures.  Color is the most dynamic element in your home to establish the mood and it is the first step you will take in determining your carpet selection.  Color is the first thing we notice about a room, and it has many associations for us.  A color may bring about memories, emotions, or images which we associate with its appearance such as:

  • Reds:  Hearts and Roses (Romance) Vs. Fire & Flame (anxiety)

  • Yellow:  Sunshine & Spring (Uplifting) Vs. Caution light (alert)

  • Blue:  Sea & Sky (Freedom) Vs. Formal Wear (Dignity)

  • Green:  Menthol (Coolness) Vs. Nature (Tranquility)

  • Brown:  Sandy Beach (Warmth) Vs. Weathered Wood (Rustic)

It is evident from the correlation above that the depth of a color has an effect upon our associations.  Thus, it is important to group colors into families.

Color Families:

  • Warm Family:  Sienna Browns, Terra Cottas, Mocha Browns, Rich Burgundy

  • Warm Neutral Family:  Creamy Beige, Powdery Taupe, Dusty Rose

  • Cool Family:  Ice Blue, Forest Greens, Raspberry Pink

  • Cool Neutral Family:  Ivory Beige, Stone Gray, Seafoam Greens

Finally, the depth of a color, as defined by its family, has an effect upon the size of a room.  Darker family colors have a diminishing effect on a room size because they absorb light.  Neutral family colors have an enhancing effect on a room size because they reflect light.
